What is Taylors Mistake and how it happend:
Taylors Mistake is in Christchurch, New Zealand. It all began in 1858, Caption Taylor was sailing to get to Lyttelton Harbour or Sumner Bay (no one knows where he was actually going) he ended up in another bay which he mistook for either Lyttelton Harbour or Sumner Bay . Taylors Mistake was unnamed so they decided to name it after Captain Taylor.

On Taylors Bay they have many things you can do such as walking, surfing, swimming, tramping, fishing and mountain biking etc.
The mystery on Taylors Mistake:
On the 16th of December 1885. A hand was found by two men fishing off the rocks. They had discovered a hand that still had a ring on it and was claimed by Mrs Sarah Howard that it was the hand of her husband Mr Arthur Howard. His clothing was also found on Sumner beach on 11th of October the same year. However, the Police found out that it was a woman's hand dug out from her grave. Mrs Howard was arrested for a secret plan to get money from an Insurance company. Mr Howard was later tracked down (with both hands) and was arrested. Till this day the hand is still unidentified
Fun Facts
The first Europeans to settle in Taylors mistake was in 1897 Tom Archbold was first to build his house in one of the caves.
The maori called Taylors Mistake Te Onepoto Which means short or little beach. There was no proof of settlement but with the number of caves, it was probably used for shelter.
The most famous place to fish at Taylors Mistake is the black rock which is just over the hill from the suburb of Sumner.
The Hermitage is the most famous cave bach was built from wood. The Hermitage was about 12 metres deep, 6 metres wide and 3 metres high, Inside also had a piano that was rowed in a boat from sumner.
