I have chosen 2 of the SDGs. The first one is ‘Zero Hunger’, I think New Zealand is on the right track, and are doing very well to prevent starvation. For example, Countdown has an ongoing ‘Food Rescue’ where they donate high quality, excess food to the local Salvation Army, and other charities and food banks. Customers are also able to donate through special donation bins, or online. This leads to around $3.7 million of food donated every year.
The second goal is ‘Good Health & Well Being’ New Zealand managed to host approximately 3,300 Pink Ribbon Breakfasts this year, and have raised almost $1 million dollars! There was a breakfast in our very own school! These funds will go towards life saving research, and support that could one day save many lives.
For my next two goals, I have chosen ‘Climate Action’, by the way, props to Countdown for not just having a Food Rescue, but also a soft plastic recycling system. My family brings in a massive bag to recycle everyday, in fact, it’s so big that it doesn’t fit in the bin that they supply for us. Our own syndicate is also doing a great job, because with the lowered amounts of plastic we’ve been bringing in to school lately.
My other goal is ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’. Whenever my whole family leaves the house, we always turn off the plugs. It is SUPER annoying, but it’s for a good cause. My family is thinking of installing a few solar panels around, but that was just a suggestion that came up during dinner. Thank You.
