Holes Chapter prompt
Chapter 1
From Reading this book I found out that camp Green Lake is not what the name says.
The lake at Camp Green Lake is all dried up and bumpy, The camp is in the middle of the desert and it is the only water source For 100 miles.
I also found out that the campers have to dig one hole each day. At the camp the campers don’t even have cabins they have to sleep in ripped up tents.
There are two trees side by side each other, but the campers aren’t allowed to go under them to cool their bodies down from the boiling 95 Degrees Fareghin height, that’s because it’s the wardens hangout place.
Chapter 2
I think that digging holes can be good to build a better person and a good friendship with people,
And that’s because when the campers are digging holes for 18 months and then they get to go back to their hometown
They won’t do anything that could get them in trouble. .
But on the other hand when they are digging holes it can make them so angry with themselves that they just want to cause more trouble.
Chapter 3
When stanley’s father says I learn from failure, I think it means when you fail you’ve just gotta look back at what you failed on and see another way to to fix and learn from it.
A time where I learnt from failure was in my basic facts test, I got a lot of answers incorrect, then I remembered them for the next basic facts test and I got most of them correct.
Chapter 4
The kind of tattoo that Mr Sir has is a Rattlesnake tattoo.
I think his tattoo symbolises that Mr. Sir likes to kill rattlesnakes, an it is also a warning for new campers to watch out.
I think it tells me that Mr. Sir actually has a good side, because it is to tell the campers to watch out.
Chapter 5
I think group E boys call Mr Pendanski “Mom” maybe because he has a nicer heart than the other people that work at Camp Green Lake, and because he might treat them like he’s their mother because he respects them and deep down he actually cares for them.
When we first met Mr. Pendanski he said that Stanley may have done bad things in his life but that doesn’t make him a bad kid, but unlike the other people who work their they think Camp Green Lake is a place for bad boys. But not Mr. Pendanski!
Chapter 6
I think the boys believe stanley didn’t steal the shoes because they think he’s actually not a “bad boy”, because I think they knew by the look of him that he wasn’t a trouble maker, and also he gives up things way to easily when he’s at camp. Like when he found something that kate would like x- ray was going to say that he found it and Stanley didn’t stick up for himself and say that he found it.
So I think the boys find him to much of a good boy to steal shoes.
Chapter 7
I think that Stanley learns from digging his first hole that digging holes are just going to get a lot harder here at Camp Green Lake, because he said that his hands were blistering and her couldn’t even move out of his bed the next day, and also x - Ray said that the second day was the hardest.
I think Stanley is proud of his hole because he has actually finished his first hole and he has accomplished something at camp and has the rest of the day off. Also on top of
Chapter 8
I don’t believe in curses because if you do you are just setting yourself up to be scared the rest of your life, and go to the effort to try and break the curse.
Chapter 9
I think the name x - ray gave stanley is good because I feel like x ray is actually trying to make stanley feel welcome by not leaving him out. So he can be like the rest of them.
I have got a nickname. I don’t know if its a nickname but my mum calls me a dustbin, because when we finish dinner I always grab the leftovers from other people's plates so it doesn’t go to waste.
Chapter 10
I think the boys line up in the same order each time to get water because it is in order from who did the worst thing that made them come to camp green lake and who did the least worst thing that made them come to camp green lake.
I think the significance of this is who did the worst thing gets to go first and who did the least worst thing goes last.
Chapter 11
X - Ray asks Stanley to give him the bullet that he found so X - Ray can take all the credit.
I think Stanley agrees to this because he is afraid of what X - Ray will do to him if he doesn’t get his way. I would have not shown X - Ray what I had found and just privately shown the warden myself.
Chapter 12
I agree with Mr. Pendanski when he says to stanley “ you’ve messed up you life, But it’s time to fix it”
Because stanley is a teenager now and it's his life now he decides what he does with it. So if he messes it up it’s his
Problem to deal with it.
But I also don’t agree with him because stanley didn’t steal the shoes they literally fell from the sky and then he took them home, so he technically didn’t steal anything.
Chapter 13
I think when Stanley agrees to help x - ray he gains x - rays trust and he starts to get on his good side instead of being on his bad side. But he loses everyone else’s trust.
He also could lose his chance of becoming friends with Zero.
Chapter 14
I wasn’t surprised that the warden was a lady because they had already given us a clue in the start of the book.
I found out that the warden wouldn’t be as strict as I thought she would be.
And I feel like she actually cares about the campers health because she made Mr. Pendanski fill up the campers canteens, and she was the only one who made the point across that it was hot outside and that they needed a drink.
But she might just want the campers to work harder to find her special thing that was hidden under the ground.
Chapter 15
I believe they other campers are just paranoid that the warden is watching over them, because when she came over she asked Mr. Pendanski if he has filled up their canteens yet so she didn’t know that, so she mustn't be watching over them while she is at her desk.
Chapter 16
I think Zero might not know any nursery rhymes or the show “Sesame Street because his parents might have been very poor, and didn’t have a enough money to buy a TV. they also might have not cared enough for Zero so they never sang to him or they might have not known any rhymes themself.
Chapter 17
I always thought at the start of the book Zigzag was actually a nice person to be around, and wanted to make friends.
But no. what I found out about him is that he likes his own space and he’s not patient. He also doesn’t like to pick up other people's mess.
Because when Stanley had put his dirt on top of Zigzag’s dirt he whacked Stanley in the head with his shovel, and said that he wasn’t going to pick up his mess.
Chapter 18
I think the reason for Stanley to keep lying in his letters is because he doesn’t want his mum and dad worrying about him.
But in the very start of the book when he was hanging out in the boys hangout room he said it himself that he didn’t want his mum and dad worrying about him, and what he might be going through.
Chapter 19
I think after Mr. Sir bandged up Stanley after Zigzag hit him in the head, I think stanley started to trust Mr. Sir just because he bandged him up. Or Stanley might have thought that if Mr. Sir finds out about the seeds Stanley could get in big trouble even if he didn’t tell him.
Chapter 20
I think the reason the Warden doesn’t raise her voice is because if she does the boys might get a bit scared and not want to work the rest of the day to try and find her Treasure. Also if she speaks in a calm voice
Chapter 21
I think the reason Zero had finished Stanley’s hole for him is because I think Zero wants to get on Stanley’s good side so he is doing something nice for him, so Zero can get Stanley to tutor him on how to read. So it will make him feel guilty and want to do something nice back to Zero.
Chapter 22
I think Stanley is a good teacher because he is very patient with Zero and he understands that he can’t read or write at all.
I have actually tutored someone, a few years ago I tutored my little sister how to read and write. In this experience I learnt to be more patient and how fun it is to be a teacher.
Chapter 23
As I was reading chapter 23 the author was actually able to paint a picture in my mind of how Camp Green lake was like. Because they had said that the peach trees blossomed over the lake and that there actually was a lake and it sparkled. It also painted a picture in my head about how hot it was, and that the lake cooled the townspeople down in the boiling hot heat.
Chapter 24
The way Mr. Sir had gotten back at stanley was by not filling up his canteen when it was time for water. But the next day Mr. Sir came back to give the boys water again and Stanley thought that Mr. Sir was being kind and forgotten about the whole thing, but no Mr. Sir went back and gave Stanley water which he thinks is poisoned
Chapter 25
I don’t think that Sam is respected around Green Lake because people are always getting mad at him because all he sells is onion products, like onion juice, onion sandwiches, ect. Then that leads to people giving him Grief.
Chapter 26
I think that the quote “whom did god punish” means that when kate barlow did something wrong her boyfriend got the punishment.
Chapter 27
I think the reason the other boys don't agree with Stanley and Zero’s agreement because they think that Zero is Stanley's slave by digging his hole for him, and all Stanley is doing is sitting around while Zero is working his hardest. But what the other boys don’t know is that Stanley is actually tutoring Zero on how to read and write, and Stanley can’t tutor him if he’s tired.
Chapter 28
Chapter 29
I think the significance of Stanley’s vision of the giant thumb is that his Grandfather is looking down at him and he’s giving him a thumbs to say that he will be out of camp Green lake in no time. The reason I think it’s his Grandfather is because the book said that that his Grandfather always talked about a Giant thumb.
Chapter 30
I think the reason Stanley doesn’t fight back is because he has never fought someone before and is scared what Zigzag will do and if the other boys might come and start to beat him up as well. If I was in this position I would do the same as Stanley not fight back.
Chapter 31
The reason Stanley doesn’t go after Zero is because he is too scared that he might not find him, Stanley is also thinking about going to find Zero when it is too late and nobody’s around. He is also not going after Zero because he keeps on thinking that Zero will come back to find him, instead of Stanley finding Zero.
Chapter 32
When the author says “what worried Stanley the most is the feeling it was too late…” I think that means that Zero could have run away from Camp Green lake and could be miles out into the desert, or Zero could have run away but then gotten bitten by a yellow spotted lizard and died out in the desert?
Chapter 33
I think Stanley does approach the situation Intelligently because he is trying to find Zero .
Chapter 34
I think the reason Stanley keeps walking is because he thinks it’s a sign that he could be doing the right thing, by going out of his way to find his friend, or it could be a trap to lure him in.
Chapter 35
I think Stanley and Zero’s relationship has grown stronger, because now that they are out in the wild they will have to work together to try and find food, build shelters, and save each other from dangerous animals. I think Stanley has grown to trust Zero now because when Zero handed him the Sploosh he didn’t want to drink it but then he trusted Zero and drank it.
Chapter 36
I think Stanley Learns that he is very patient and that he can be helpful in sticky situations for example, Stanley gave Zero a boost up to the other ledge when he couldn’t reach it, I think he also learnt how to agree more on things. Stanley also learnt that Zero never gives up because when they were climbing the mountain Zero he felt very sick but he kept on climbing.
Chapter 37
I think Stanley calls Zero Hector is because that’s actually Zero’s real name and Stanley feels like they have grown a good friendship so he thinks he can call him by his real name.
Chapter 38
I have approached something impossible, because when I was in botany I never knew that I could frog leap over the mini poles that are dotted round botany, so I attempted it and I did it! I learnt that nothing is impossible and you can do it if you really think about trying it.
Chapter 39
I Think Zero Tells Stanley about the Stolen shoes because they are such good friends now and if he tells him he won’t be mad, because they are friends, but if he told him at the start of camp Stanley would have gotten mad, because he was already mad about being at camp.
Chapter 40
No I don’t think that Zero is right because even though he stole the shoes he should suffer the consequences. There is a positive side to Stanley’s situation because he didn’t actually steal the shoes they basically fell out of nowhere.
Chapter 41
The difference between Coincidence and destiny is that Destiny is something that you are dreaming of that will happen, and Coincidence is something that intentionally happens.
Chapter 42
I think when Stanley hears Zero’s Stories, I think it makes him feel how greatful his family actually is and that he is not poor like Zero’s family.
Chapter 43
I think when the warden confronts Zero and Stanley they would have felt really frightened to come face to face with the warden when she was really mad.
Chapter 44
I found out that the warden is actually quite nice and actually appreciative about the boys finding the treasure.
Chapter 45
I Think the reason Zero gave Stanley the thumbs up sign is because when the lizard crawled up his face it didn't bite him so that could be the reason why?
Chapter 46
The other Character in the book with the last name Walker is Trout Walker. The reason this might be important is because trout was the one who killed KIssin Kate Barlow.
Chapter 47
I think the reason Stanley won’t leave without Zero is because he doesn’t want Zero going back home and being homeless and also because they have grown a really strong friendship
Chapter 48
It is important to me that a raindrop has landed on Green lake because this could mean that it would rain more often there and it could be a happier place. I think the reason the Author said this in the last page is because he was reiterating back to the very start when he said that not a single raindrop has landed on the lake.
Chapter 49
I think Stanley has changed in the fact that he is more tougher and stronger then he was before he came to camp, I don’t think Stanley had a hole in his life, I just thought he was a normal kid, and I don’t think he has a hole in his life either now because he has actually learnt a lot from this experience like, how to make a long lasting friendship, strength, never giving up, to be patient, and team work.
