If there’s one thing I love it’s softball. That’s why I decided to trial for the Auckland under 13 girls team. Before the trial there was a lot of training.
When it came to the day of the trial Because I was the only one there from my club, I didn’t know anyone there. I nervously walked out onto the diamond. I left the 2 hour trial feeling anxious. I was a couple of weeks later when the team was announced. To my surprise I had made it.
Next came along a lot of training until we came up to our first tournament. I had no idea what the other teams would be like. The weather was sunny but with lots of rain. I unfortunately didn’t play the first game which was against Counties Manukau but I was prepared for the second game.
The second game was against North Harbour. I put my gear on and walked towards the plate. I crouched down with my heart racing, I was ready to catch. This was my first game for Auckland. After 3 quick outs I went out to bat, I swung and I hit the ball, I only got to first base but it was better than getting out. We won this game but i didn’t know the score.
The third game was against Waikato, I didn’t catch this game but I played in left field. I got some good contact with bat to ball. We won this game as well which sent us to the final against Counties, the team we lost to in the first game.
This game I played left field again. Nothing was hit to me but I did have an amazing bat. It was 2 strikes 3 balls the pitch was right down the middle and I smashed down the first base line. My parents told me I had hit it to the fence. I could have got a homerun but my coach told me to stop on third base. We won this game so we came 1st out of 4 teams.
This tournament was tough but we managed to get through it my first Auckland tournament was amazing and I want to do it again.
