Holes Chapter Writing Prompts

Chapter 1:

From this chapter, I learnt that the setting in the in the story was very large and very sunny there. When I heard the name Camp Green Lake I thought it would be a huge lake with tons of trees, grass and tons of water in the lake. What it was really like was it was really dry and empty. There were only 2 trees with a hammock between it.

Chapter 2:

I think that digging these holes can change a bad person into a good person because they would probably hate digging holes as it is very hard and difficult. I heard that Beyond Scared Straight is an A&E reality series that follows teenagers who spend a day in prison to learn from inmates and be terrified by the truths of prison life, I think that could change a person because some people would be terrified to be in there.

Chapter 3:

I think “I Learn From Failures” means when you make a mistake you will have to learn from them, what you did wrong and try to not make that mistake again in the future. A mistake I made before was that at the SIS skiing competition, when we were free skiing down the mountain, I accidently bumped into someone really hard without looking. I learned that i should be more careful when free skiing.

Chapter 4:

Mr Sir has a rattlesnake tattoo. It tells me that he probably hates rattlesnakes, also probably uses it to intimidate people. Later on in the chapter he got smacked by the warden with her hands, and her nails were freshly painted with rattlesnake venom.

Chapter 5:

They call Mr. Pendanski “mom” probably because he’s like a mom that takes care of you but Mr. Pendanski takes care of everyone in the tent.

Chapter 6:

The boys didn't believe that Stanley stole the shoes because, first he said he stole them from Clyde Livingston which is a Major League baseball player for the Texas Rangers. And another reason was that he said the shoes fell from the sky which is really hard to believe.

Chapter 7:

What Stanley learnt from digging the first hole was that it was very hard, tiring and took really long. His hands were bleeding and there were tons of scabs. He felt proud probably because it was really hard and tiring and he felt relieved that he finished digging the hole.

Chapter 8:

I don’t believe that curses are real because their kinda hard to believe to be real and i have never heard of anyone in real life to have a curse.

Chapter 9:

I think X-ray called Stanley ‘Caveman” because the group of boys thinks he is very tough. I think it suits him because he’s tall, tough and doesn’t get intimidated. He didn't even get scared when he made a guy mad in the wreck room by tripping over his leg.

Chapter 10:

The boys always line up in the same order because X-ray arranged them. It’s probably the most important people at the front and not as important people at the back of the line. X-ray is the leader of the group so he arranges everyone how he wants to.

Chapter 11:

X-ray told Stanley that if he ever finds/digs up anything from the holes, to give it to him because X-ray has stayed far more longer than him, and Stanley is just new. I would've done the same probably because if i didnt, the boys at the camp will probably start physically abusing or just be mean.

Chapter 12:

I don’t agree with this because Stanley didn't do anything wrong, he just got accused of stealing Clyde Livingston shoes, which fell out of the sky.

Chapter 13:

When Stanley helped X-ray, he will gain a friend which will help him throughout the year and always be there for him. What he will lose will be double showers and the rest of the day off.

Chapter 14:

I was kind of surprised that the warden was a woman because she seemed like a nice person and wouldn't be that cruel. I found out that the warden started out pretty nice and she told Mr. Pendanski to fill everyone's canteen again, later on in the chapter she becomes more mean by bossing everyone around and slapped Mr Sir in the face.

Chapter 15:

I think the campers are just paranoid because if there were and cameras, they would be pretty easy to spot. Also I’m pretty sure the warden would not put them in showers.

Chapter 16:

A reason i think that Zero doesn’t know Sesman street is because his family is very poor and can’t afford to get zero in school.

Chapter 17:

What Stanley found out about ZigZag this chapter was that he was bossy, probably because he thinks he's in a higher rank than Stanley and more important than him. ZigZag also wacked Stanley on neck with a shovel and wounded him.

Chapter 18:

I think he continues to lie to his parents because he doesn't want them to worry about him by writing letters that sounds like he's having much more fun than digging up holes. He writes to his parents that he does water skiing, rock climbing etc.

Chapter 19:

Stanley said that he stole the sunflower seeds because he doesn't want Magnet and the other boys to get in trouble. What i would've done was probably the same because i don't want to anger the boys and still be good friends with them.

Chapter 20:

The warden speaks in a quiet and polite voice because it just makes her sound more cruel and evil. It's also kind of intimidating because you don't know if you’ve done something wrong.

Chapter 21:

Zero finished Stanley's hole for him because Zero made a deal that if Stanley teaches him how to read and write, he will dig Stanley’s hole for him.

Chapter 22:

Stanley seems like a good teacher because he probably has the patience to do so. Also i have not tutored anyone.

Chapter 23:

I think the author makes camp green lake seem real because of how he explains and describes it, and the way everything works.

Chapter 24:

Mr.Sir did not fill Stanley’s canteen even in the heat. I don't think Stanley got Mr.Sir scratched because it was his fault that he took Stanley into the warden's office about the sunflower seeds.

Chapter 25:

I feel like Sam is a respected member of the Camp Green Lake community because he sells fresh and hot onions. He is also a doctor as well by using onions.

Chapter 26:

When it said ‘Whom did god punish’ I think he had punished camp green lake because since that incident, camp green lake hasn't had one drop of rain ever.

Chapter 27:

I don't think the other boys of group D approves because Zero gets to dig Staleys hole for him in exchange of Stanley teaching Zero english/reading. The boys dont like it when Stanley just sits around and do nothing. I think it's a fair arrangement because Zero likes to dig holes and Stanley likes to teach Zero english.

Chapter 28:

The warden has the same turquoise-studded boots as Kate Barlow probably because she stole it from Kates dead body which to me is quite weird.

Chapter 29:

I think the significance of Stanley’s vision of the giant thumb was if he ever got lost or ran away, he could go to the giant thumb and take the refuge and live.

Chapter 30:

Stanley didn't fight back probably because he doesn't want to make ZigZag hate him more than he originally did. If i was in his position i wouldn't fight back too because he might actually start abusing or torture me.

Chapter 31:

Stanley doesn't want to go after Zero because he doesn't want to get in trouble too and he might even starve or die of dehydration. Also probably because he doesn't want to stay at camp green lake for a longer time.

Chapter 32:

Stanley was worried because Zero might die out in the desert because he doesn't have any water or food to drink and eat. The ‘hope it wasn't to late’ probably meant that he hoped it wasn't too late for Stanley to save him.

Chapter 33:

Stanley's predicament was quite funny because he actually crashed the car in a hole and all of the water leaked out. If i was in that situation, i would do the same thing but be more careful when driving around the holes.

Chapter 34:

Stanley kept on walking towards the big thumb because he thinks that there will be something up there that will save him.

Chapter 35:

I think the relationship between Stanley and Zero is very close and their very good friends and will help each other whenever they needed help.

Chapter 36:

I think what Stanley learns about himself as he climbed the mountain is that if he tried his hardest to do something, he will get something good out of it. It requires determination and dedication. What he learnt about Zero was that he never gave up and kept climbing up the mountain and wont stop.

Chapter 37:

I think Stanley calls Zero ‘Zero Hector’ because he thinks that he gained his trust and friendship and and will always be friends forever.

Chapter 38:

When I was in the sis ski team last year, we went onto the whakapapa snow mountain to race. The race track was incredibly steep and i never thought i would even finish the race. But i gave it a try and attempted to ski down it. I had a few minor falls but other than that it wasn't that hard. What i learnt from it was to always attempt to try something hard and challenging and never give up.

Chapter 39:

I think Zero confessed about the stolen shoes because he gained Stanley’s trust and friendship and friends will never betray each other or tell other people secrets.

Chapter 40:

Stanley is surprised to find the sack of jars and the shovel probably because it went so far down the mountain. Even i would be stunned to find the sack of jars and the shovel.

Chapter 41:

I think he’s right because the sneakers would still be safe and secured and wouldn't have fallen onto Stanley's head. I don't think there’s anything positive about their situation right now because their stuck in the middle of a desert with no food or water.

Chapter 42:

I think it was just a coincidence because those shoes fell on him the exact time and it could've been anyone.
