School Journal, March 2012, level 4
Overview
At Moriah School in Wellington collected 1.5 million buttons to use for there holocaust memorial. The students choose to use buttons to represent the children that died in the holocaust because they represent the circle of life and they are all different. The buttons would line the walls to represent all the children that died in the holocaust. At first they thought it would be impossible to collect 1.5 million buttons. The school advertised it in the media, on websites and told the Jewish community. Soon the story went worldwide.Buttons came from all over the world. Some people sent one a button with a story and others sent 50 or more buttons. The school finished collecting the buttons and now need to raise $250,000 to build the memorial.
