Homework Week 7 Term 2 2018
Part 1:
Persuasion is all around you
Tv ad
1. Who is trying to persuade you?
Meridian Energy is trying to persuade us to join them because we have a rival which is Norway and they are ahead of us in electric vehicles. So Meridian believes that if Norwegians are using more electric vehicles than us, we are capable of catching up and having the same amount or more electric vehicles being used all over New Zealand. As they say in the ad if Norwegians can do it, so can we!
2. What are they trying to persuade you to do?
They are persuading us to join their company because they are working towards being more sustainable and having cleaner energy. They are encouraging people to join by promising that they will help with charging stations while being able to charge your car for free. They also are introducing electric car sharing. Plus they are giving current members a free bumper sticker to show their support to the company and make people want to join because of the advantages from joining.
3. Do you think their argument is convincing? Why or why not?
I think that their argument or ad is convincing because they want to improve the sustainability of the environment by introducing electric cars. They also promise to keep those advantages so people will think that Meridian is a good company to join. I think lots of people will join Meridian because of how it is going to impact on New Zealand and the world. My family and I are currently with Meridian and we have received a bumper sticker which says, “My next car will be electric”. Overall I think that if people join Meridian they will start caring about the environment more and how they are trying to improve the sustainability of the environment.
This ad uses logos and Ethos because it shows comparisons between New Zealand and Norway. It also uses Avante Garde, Patriotism, Magic Ingredients, Transfer, Plain Folks and Bribery.
2. Magazine ad
Who is trying to persuade you?
The people who made this ad who are advertising for popchips are trying to persuade people to buy their chips because they are healthier than normal chips. They show you this by comparing fried chips, kettle style chips and their own pop chips by showing a graph of how much fat, carbs, fibre and protein are in each of the chips. Pop chips are proven to be healthier and better for your health.
What are they trying to persuade you to do?
The people who made pop chips are trying to get you to buy their chips because they would earn more money and maybe their chips might become popular. They might also be trying to persuade you to buy their chips because of the health benefits they won’t make you feel guilty after eating the chips. This could be because it is more healthier and it will give you more energy because it contains 100 calories.
Do you think their argument is convincing? Why or why not?
I think this argument or this ad is convincing because chips are normally unhealthy and pop chips are healthier than normal chips. I think it is also convincing because they show how popchips are healthy by showing what it contains. But last but not least I think it is convincing because people would probably want to buy food or snacks that are healthier for them.
