Mistakes in history
Hitler’s freezing mistake (Operation Barbarossa)
Operation Barbarossa was a very big attack on the soviet union. In 1941 Hitler invaded Russia with 3,400 Panzers, 2,700 Luftwaffe and 80% of the German army what could go wrong in fact it might even be done before winter forget the winter gear. That was Hitler's big mistake being so sure that it would be a quick attack that they didn’t need to worry about winter. When they were quite far into the operation everything was running very well but then autumn came and the ground was muddy and slushy so the horse-drawn vehicles were hopelessly stuck so the Nazis chose to temporarily halt. Then winter hit and the ground was frozen but they did manage to attack Moscow. On December the 5th the soviets launched a surprise counter attack and forced the exhausted Nazis to retreat. Hitler would of succeeded if he supply winter gear.
Memoir 1 (a Nazi soldier's point of view)
On the 22nd of June 1941 was the start of an operation which took the lives of my close friends right before my eyes. Operation Barbarossa was one of the best planned operation there was about 80% of the German army 17 Panzer divisions and 2,700 Luftwaffe's in fact it was so well planned Hitler thought we’d be done before winter. We had been fighting for months and were going well we had hundreds of thousands of soviet prisoners we were so close to Moscow but then autumn hit it got muddier and hard so it was decided that we put a halt on the operation. When we got back to fighting the ground was frozen but we still trudged on and my friends well they slowly died from the cold. We did manage to take most of Moscow but then the soviets did a surprise counter strike which forced us to retreat. All this could of been avoided if we had winter supplies. I could be out for a drink with my friends right now if it was for operation Barbarossa.
Japan made a bad decision (pearl harbour)
On the 7th of December 1941 pearl harbour got a surprise attack from hundreds of Japanese bombers . 20 american naval ships were damaged or destroyed and over 2,400 were killed also 1,000 wounded. The next day president Franklin D. Roosevelt asked congress if he could declare war on japan and they said yes so now america was at war. The damage that japan did could have been a lot worse because they didn’t hit the repair fields which went into action shortly after the attack. America salvaged as much as possible then went and fought pretty much straight away. On the 6th and 9th of august the Americans bombed japan with atomic bombs which ended the war between those countries.
Memoir 2 (american soldier’s point of view)
On December 7 1941 we were attacked by a Japanese fleet and nearly 20 naval ships were either damaged or destroyed and over 2,400 Americans killed and 1,000 wounded. Franklin D. Roosevelt asked congress if he could declare war on japan. So then after congress said yes we were at war with japan and the Nazis. Since japan only targeted our battleships not our aircraft carriers or repair fields we fixed as many ships as possible and went straight to war. 4 years later on the 6th of august 1945 we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the 9th of august with atomic bombs and that ended the war between japan and america. Japan could of avoided all of this if they A- didn’t bomb us B- had better aiming.
Scattering paratroopers isn’t so bad (d-day)
On June the 6th america invaded Normandy with paratroopers and regular soldiers. The paratroopers of d-day were american soldiers who invaded German occupied Normandy. There was 13,100 paratroopers so this was really a full scale attack but there was a problem the bad weather and anti-aircraft fire caused the troopers to disperse. This seemed like a bad thing at the time but it actually helped the overall invasion because soldiers were coming in at every angle and attacking so it confused the Nazi soldiers. On the 30th of April 1945 Hitler killed himself in his bunker in Berlin and the Nazis surrendered on the 8th of may 1945.
Memoir 3 (Nazi’s soldiers point of view)
On the 6th of June 1944 the allied forces attacked us at Normandy this attack was called D-day . The troops were everywhere attacking from every angle because they had scattered paratroopers and soldiers still invading on the shore. Because of the bad weather every single paratrooper dispersed and they were attacking everything. As Americans they were very good at attacking. This was such a heavy attack that it clearly marked the beginning of the end of the war. About ten months later on the 30th of April 1945 Hitler killed himself in his bunker underneath his headquarters in Berlin then 8 days later on may 8 the Germans surrendered. All this because of one attack and some bad weather d-day.
