Chapter 11.
What does X-Ray ask Stanley to do?
He tells Stanley that if he finds anything interesting then he should give it to him because X-Ray has been there longer then Stanley and he deserves a break more than Stanley.
Why does Stanley agree to this?
I think that Stanley agrees to go along with X-Ray’s plan because he doesn’t want to mess with the wrong person in the first week of camp. It was probably a safer option for Stanley to accept X-Ray as his leader instead of risking it all for the next 18 months at camp.
What would you have done?
I probably would have done the same as Stanley because even if I was going to be sneaky about seeing the warden about the tube, word seems to spread around the camp fast, and I would rather not be living the next 18 months with X-Ray hating me.
Chapter 12.
Mr. Pendanski tells Stanley: “You messed up your life, and it’s up to you to fix it.” Do you agree with this?
I disagree with this because us as readers know that Stanley didn’t actually do anything wrong, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I guess that Stanley can still learn a few things from this experience and from the other boys that actually have done something wrong. Although it’s not like the other boys ever listen to Mr Pendanski!
Chapter 13.
What does Stanley gain when he agrees to help X-Ray?
Stanley gains more trust and respect from X-Ray; therefore Stanley is moved up one place in the line for water.
What does he lose?
Stanley loses a possible day off, but I think that it was worth giving that tube to X-Ray instead of being disrespected by him.
Chapter 14
Were you surprised to discover that the Warden is a woman?
I was a little bit surprised because usually it is a really tough man incharge. I got this picture from the saying ‘the man of the house’. But at the same time I am not too surprised because ladies can also be strict when they want to.
What else do you find out about the Warden in this chapter?
The Warden secretly keeps an eye on all the boys and pays attention to their nicknames and progress of digging holes. She makes it obvious that shes looking for something after ‘X-Ray’ finds the tube in a hole and the boys have to carry on working super hard to dig holes bigger than just 5 feet.
Chapter 15.
Do you think Zigzag and the other campers are correct in believing that the Warden is always watching them, or are they just being paranoid?
They may be going a bit over the top with this statement, but at the same time, they have been at camp longer than caveman and they probably know what they are talking about. ALthough having cameras in the showers doesn’t make much sense, they are probably kind of paranoid about that one.
Chapter 16.
Can you think of some reasons why Zero might not be familiar with any nursery rhymes or the show Sesame Street?
I think that maybe Zero hasn’t seen or heard any nursery rhymes because from what I’ve learnt so far, Zero probably grew up in a poor environment. This is just a guess but Zero’s family probably didn’t have enough money to get proper education; hence Zero not being able to read or write.
Chapter 17.
What does Stanley find out about Zigzag in this chapter? What does Stanley find out about Zigzag in this chapter?
I believe that all the boys at Camp Green Lake act really tough on the outside and show little emotion, but really, they don’t want to be at Camp Green Lake and they are probably a bit disappointed in themselves. But they keep all this emotion to themselves; as Stanley discovers.
Chapter 18.
Why do you think Stanley continues lying to his mom and dad in his letters?
I think that Stanley keeps lying in his letters that are being sent back home because he doesn’t want them to worry about him too much. It would also be embarrassing if his parents decided to come and pick him up in front of all the others! His parents have also fallen for the name, ‘Camp Green Lake’ as well because his mum is really pleased that Stanley can finally go to a camp and it doesn’t cost them a ton.
Chapter 19.
Why does Stanley tell Mr. Sir that he stole the sunflower seeds?
Stanley tells Mr SIr that he stole the sun flower seeds because he doesn’t want to get on the wrong side of any of his cabin mates.
What would you have done?
First of all I would have tried to hide the sun flower seeds better, but otherwise I would have done the same because as well as not being the others enemy, they will probably thank me for it later.
Chapter 20
The Warden does not raise her voice, and she usually speaks in seemingly polite phrases. What makes her so menacing?
I believe that although the warden is speaking in polite tones and words, she can still come across as tough because she is acting so calm. You would expect somebody like the warden to explode with anger over a bad situation, so when she doesn’t, you feel like something really bad is going to happen soon.
